The Ministry of Trade and Industry on Tuesday invited qualified companies to bid on a public tender to import essential items aimed at stabilizing market prices.

The items include sugar, wheat flour, maize flour, rice, beans, lentils, powdered milk, cooking oil, dura, maize, beverages, and soaps.

“The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MT&I) is pleased to invite qualified private companies and experienced traders to participate in a vital national programme aimed at stabilising market prices and ensuring a prosperous future for South Sudanese citizens through the import of essential food items,” it said.

It said that the ministry is launching this initiative to leverage the expertise and innovation of the private sector to establish lasting solutions to stabilise the market.

“South Sudan is currently facing challenges due to fluctuating market conditions, price volatility, and supply chain inefficiencies.”

It noted that the Ministry of Trade and Industry is seeking proposals from all qualified private companies and traders for the importation of essential food commodities.

The ministry urged interested companies and traders to submit a comprehensive proposal that includes a company profile, product list, pricing structure, delivery timeline, and food safety certificates, starting on Monday, July 14, 2025, to Monday, July 28, 2025

In August 2024, the Ministry of Trade and Industry launched a subsidised food auction in the country’s capital, Juba.

The initiative aims to stabilise the market, ensure public access to essential food items, and close the hunger gaps.

This came after citizens decried skyrocketing prices of basic food commodities due to the deteriorating economic situation in the country.

South Sudan depends significantly on essential commodities imported from neighbouring Kenya, Sudan, and Uganda.
