"We Dare where others fear"
The launch of a mass measles immunization campaign by the World Health Organization (WHO), in collaboration with South Sudan’s Ministry of Health, marks a critical stride in protecting the country’s most vulnerable population—its children. With a target of over 377,000 children aged 1 to 4 years in Central Equatoria State, this initiative reflects a deep commitment to public health and disease prevention.
Measles remains one of the leading causes of death among young children globally, despite the availability of a safe and effective vaccine. In contexts like South Sudan, where healthcare infrastructure faces immense challenges, such campaigns are not just essential—they are life-saving.
This effort is also a reminder of the power of partnerships. International support coupled with national leadership can drive impactful, community-centered action. But immunization is not a one-time fix. Sustained investment in routine vaccination, public awareness, and health worker support will be crucial in ensuring that gains made today are not lost tomorrow.
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to take full advantage of this campaign. Every vaccinated child is a step toward a healthier, more resilient nation.
