"We Dare where others fear"

The Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, Simon Ober Mawut, on Wednesday called on citizens to embrace diversity and pursue a common destiny for peaceful coexistence.
In his state address to mark the 14th independence anniversary, Mawut stressed the need to embrace diversity to promote unity and national cohesion.
“We are now in the second and most difficult phase of rebuilding a country after decades of war, but we cannot achieve this objective if we do not embrace our diversity and peaceful coexistence,” Mawut stated.
He commended the people of Northern Bahr el Ghazal for maintaining peace and unity among themselves and with their neighbours.
“We should therefore utilise the peace and stability in the state to engage in large- and small-scale farming to ensure food independence,” he said.
Mawut warned against the dangers posed by climate change, urging immediate action to prevent potential natural disasters.
“I would like to remind you that the threats posed by climate change are real, and we are already experiencing their effects,” he said.
“You may have noticed that the weather patterns in the state and other parts of our region have drastically changed over the past years.”
He emphasised the need to raise awareness about climate change and environmental protection.
“These changes have resulted in increased severity and unpredictability in flood and drought occurrences,” he said.
“Some of the causes of these phenomena are deforestation and the constant burning of bushes. These practices not only worsen the effects of climate change but also create conditions that are difficult to live in.”
