The governor of Jonglei State, Dr Riek Gai Kok, has received a prestigious award from a visiting Korean delegation, symbolising hope and inspiration that have significantly improved the lives of Jonglei citizens.
Taesun Heo, the Director of Joint Chiefs of Staff Civilian and Military Operations, described Governor Riek as a symbol of hope and great inspiration, particularly in the revitalisation of agriculture, security, and the economy in Jonglei State.
“In recognition of his groundbreaking leadership and people-centred policies that have significantly enhanced the lives of Jonglei citizens, the Korean Government has formally conferred this prestigious award upon His Excellency, Dr Riek Gai Kok,” said Taesun on Wednesday following the meeting at the Pyramid Continental Hotel.
Taesun explained that the award is a tribute to good governance, resilience, and excellence, which continue to shape the state’s progress, highlighting Governor Kok’s exceptional contributions to infrastructure development, healthcare, education, agriculture, power generation, and security.
Byung Guk Kwon, the team leader who led the Korean delegation, described Governor Riek as a true grassroots leader, adding that the governor’s visionary leadership has redefined governance in Jonglei, resulting in unprecedented rural transformation.
While receiving his award, Riek Gai Kok dedicated this inspirational recognition to the people of Jonglei State, acknowledging their unwavering support.
Governor Kok informed the Korean delegation that his administration is just beginning an era of transformation, asserting that significant progress in Jonglei State will soon serve as a national reference point.
“It is a great delight and joy to stand here and receive this award on behalf of the good people of Jonglei State. For us, this award is an energiser, a motivation to deliver tangible dividends of democracy to the citizens who stood by us through thick and thin,” said Kok.
