"We Dare where others fear"

The Executive Director of the Christian Agency for Peace and Development (CAPaD), Peter Malir Biar, has urged all peace parties to renew their commitment to fully implementing the pending provisions of the 2018 peace agreement, emphasising its importance for lasting stability in the country.
Persistent political disagreements and security challenges continue to hinder the comprehensive implementation of the 2018 peace deal, despite recent progress.
Biar called on the parties to chart practical pathways for renewed dialogue and confidence-building to implement the peace pact and pave the way for elections.
“At CAPaD, we believe this moment calls for renewed commitment to completing the Peace Agreement and advancing dialogue and reconciliation,” Malir said in a statement issued on the occasion marking the 14th Independence anniversary on Wednesday.
Malir also urged the government to renew efforts to address the root causes of communal violence through local peacebuilding initiatives.
“Ongoing communal violence across parts of South Sudan, including the recent state of emergency in Warrap State and Mayom County of Unity State, reminds us that true peace remains elusive,” he said.
He called for investment in civic education and meaningful participation of youth and women in governance and peace processes.
“We also recognise the repeated extensions of the transitional period and the postponement of elections, which have denied many South Sudanese, especially young people, the opportunity to exercise their right to vote for over 15 years.”
Malir stressed the need for the government to work toward a peaceful environment that allows the people of South Sudan to exercise their democratic rights.
“Today, with many peace mechanisms inactive, parliament in recess for several months, and the political situation uncertain, the path forward requires collective focus and commitment to stability,” he said.
“A generation of young people has grown up without the opportunity to participate in shaping their nation’s leadership and future.”
He reiterated his organisation’s readiness and dedication to working with communities, partners, and stakeholders to advance peace, human rights, and sustainable development in the country.
