"We Dare where others fear"

By Simon Deng
The national Minister of Youth and Sports, Joseph Geng Akech, has called on the youth of South Sudan to reject division and conflict by actively engaging in nationwide peacebuilding and development initiatives.
“It is time for us, the young people, to unite and rebuild our nation. South Sudan must put an end to conflict. We need to place greater emphasis on sports, as it brings us together and fosters peace,” Akech stated on Saturday during the Duk County Youth Association (DCYA) campaign event in Juba.
Akech stressed that the country’s future lies in the hands of its younger generation, adding that youth campaigns and elections should serve as symbols of unity and harmony among communities.
“Politics alone cannot sustain us; true development comes through entrepreneurship. If the youth of South Sudan embrace business, we can steer our country towards sustainable progress,” Akech remarked.
Simon Akuei Deng, the Commissioner General of the South Sudan Revenue Authority, urged community elders to refrain from interfering in youth affairs, emphasising that youth leadership is about fostering unity.
“Youth leadership brings people together and creates harmony. I urge older individuals who attempt to divide the youth to cease their actions and allow young people to grow without any political influence,” Deng said.
The Duk County Youth Association (DCYA) is a community-based organisation focused on youth education and empowerment, committed to uplifting both youth and women from the Duk community.
The chairmanship of DCYA for the 2025-2027 term is contested by Mamer Makuei Mamer of the Duk Youth Democratic Alliance (DYDA) and Gabriel Galuak Chol of the Duk United Alliance (DUA).
