Eng. Mamer Makuei Clinches DCYA Chairmanship in Landslide Win

The flag bearer of the Duk Youth Democratic Alliance (DYDA) Eng. Mamer Makuei, has emerged victorious in the highly contested elections for the Duk County Youth Association in Juba for the 2025–2027 term.

In the elections, a total of 1,973 votes were cast out of 2,353 registered voters, with 1,873 votes confirmed as valid after discarding 54 invalid ballots.

Eng. Mamer Makuei of DYDA secured 1,281 votes, making up 68.4 per cent of the valid ballots. In contrast, Gabriel Gatluak Chol of the Duk United Alliance (DUA) received 592 votes, accounting for 31.6 per cent of the total.

The incoming chairperson of the Duk County Youth Association in Juba, Eng. Mamer Makuei, will replace the outgoing chairperson, Aleer Aleer, who has led the association over the past two years.

The election, held at Jolong Hotel in the Shirikat suburb of Juba, witnessed significant voter turnout and was conducted peacefully, reflecting a growing democratic engagement among the youth of Duk County.

Prof. David Malual Wuor, the Chairman of the Independent Electoral Committee (IEC), affirmed the credibility and fairness of the election process and thanked the entire Duk youth for conducting a peaceful and well-organised election.

“The competitors have shown our young people how democracy can lead and build our community,” said Wuor, noting that the victory marks a new beginning for the youth of Duk County.

Eng. Mamer Makuei, the Chairman-elect of the Duk County Youth Association in Juba, is expected to foster unity and drive community development during the 2025-2027 term and will be officially sworn in on July 26, 2025.
