The government of Warrap State has resolved to temporarily relocate to Greater Tonj following last week’s violence, which resulted in the deaths of more than eight people.

Mamer Bath Marol, the Warrap State Minister of Information, stated that the state government has decided to move its seat to Greater Tonj to address the rising insecurity.

“As an assurance to the public, the state government is now relocating its seat to the scene of the violence as an alternative approach,” Marol said in a statement issued on Monday.

Marol added that the state government will continue to operate in the area until a permanent solution to the recurring violence is found and addressed.

“Nevertheless, the government of Warrap State is extremely upset by the recent loss of lives in Tonj North and Tonj East counties and extends its condolences to the victims, including the bereaved families,” he said.

He noted that State Governor Amb. Bol Wek Agoth is concerned about what he described as “barbaric and widespread” communal violence in the Greater Tonj area.

Governor Amb. Bol Wek condemned the atrocities being directed at innocent lives by a group he referred to as “enemies of peace” and urged the parties involved in the skirmishes to refrain from further escalating the situation.

“As the state government, we reiterate our commitment to maintaining peace and assure the public, especially the victims of the ongoing violence in Warrap State,” he said.

He assured the public that the state government will investigate the causes of the ongoing communal violence and devise amicable and durable solutions to “the chronic vice.”

Warrap State has been plagued by communal violence, revenge killings, cattle theft, road ambushes, and other forms of violence.
