This electoral process is set to mark the official end of the country’s transitional period, reinforcing the commitment to peace and democratic governance in the region.
In a statement issued after their two-day visit to South Sudan, the PSC commended the commitment expressed towards completing the transition process.
“The PSC expressed its unwavering support for the organisation of elections in December 2026, marking the end of the transition in South Sudan,” it said.
The PSC also called for an inclusive political high-level dialogue among political leaders to facilitate an amicable resolution of the current political situation in the country.
“Overall, the PSC field mission was undertaken as an expression of the AU’s solidarity with the people of South Sudan. It also reaffirmed the AU’s continued dedication to supporting South Sudan in ending the conflict and ensuring a successful completion of the transition period.”
