The South Sudan Civil Society Alliance (SSCSA) has called on the parties to the 2018 revitalised peace agreement to urgently address unresolved issues that are hindering the completion of key tasks.

Dabek Mabior, the deputy chairperson of the SSCSA, urged the parties in the transitional government of national unity to resolve their differences through dialogue to facilitate peace implementation.

“We call on the parties signatory to the 2018 peace agreement to respect the agreement and resolve all differences through dialogue. We also urge the parties to embrace non-violent means,” Mabior stated during a press conference on Thursday.

“We appeal to the government to provide funding for the implementation of security arrangements, particularly the unification of forces, and to also allocate funds to the National Election Commission, the National Constitution Review Commission, and the Political Parties Council,” he added.

Paulino Obul Ayiik, another member of the SSCSA, emphasised that the transitional government needs to ensure security to allow for humanitarian access and the resettlement of displaced populations.

“We urge all parties to respect the peace agreement, resolve pending issues, and recommit to the full implementation of the peace agreement, including the establishment of a permanent constitution,” Ayiik stated.

In 2020, the revitalised transitional government was formed to fully implement the 2018 revitalised peace agreement, aiming to restore permanent and sustainable peace, security, and stability in South Sudan.

In August 2024, the parties to the 2018 peace agreement extended the transitional arrangement by two years, effectively postponing the anticipated general election for the third time to December 2026.
