The Acting Commissioner and Executive Director of Cueibet County, Mr. Peter Mabor Dheng, has stated that peace and security are the county’s top priorities.

In an exclusive interview with The Dawn newspaper, Mr. Dheng stressed that these peace and security measures must continue to be implemented and promoted, not only within Lakes State but also in neighbouring counties of Warrap State, including Tonj North and Tonj East.

He explained that the government of Lakes State, under the leadership of H.E. Governor Rin Tueny Mabor, compiled by-laws during a consultative meeting held in Juba in June 2021.

This meeting brought together stakeholders, army officers, and sons and daughters of Lakes State working at the national level before the governor assumed office in the state.

Mr. Dheng stated that suspected culprits from both Lakes and Warrap states should be apprehended by local authorities and handed over to the relevant government institutions to ensure peace prevails among the civilian population.

He emphasised that looted cattle must be returned to their rightful owners on both sides, including the people of Lakes State.

According to him, the Cueibet County administration has recently returned raided herds from Rumbek Centre to their legitimate owners, while the alleged culprits will be sent to the state headquarters to face the law.

Mr. Dheng assured the public that Cueibet County will not experience threats such as road ambushes or illegal roadblocks.

He stated that the highway connecting the Bahr el Ghazal region to Sudan’s capital, Khartoum, and to Juba city will remain protected by peace ambassadors, led by the government and law enforcement agencies.

He emphasised that this road is meant for public use, enabling people to carry out their daily activities in safety and harmony.

Additionally, Mr. Dheng confirmed his readiness to reorganise the functions of the ruling party, noting that the mobilisation of SPLM supporters will be strengthened to encourage SPLM-IO members to rejoin their mother party in Cueibet County.

He further highlighted that agricultural production, healthcare awareness, and the promotion of education—particularly the importance of sending children to school to eliminate illiteracy—remain key priorities for the Lakes State government. These efforts, he said, will be extended to benefit the wider Gok community.
