The Governor of Central Equatoria State, Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, has urged the church to collaborate with the government in fostering unity, harmony, and peace within society.

Mujung made this call during Sunday services at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Rock City, Juba.

“It is time for us to forget the past, whether politically, socially, or religiously, and forge a new page,” Mujung said in a statement issued by his office on Sunday.

Mujung emphasised that the church, in partnership with the government, can significantly contribute to restoring peace and tackling issues such as insecurity, disunity, and other urgent challenges confronting the state.

He voiced concern over an increase in gang violence and criminal groups referred to locally as “niggas” and “Torontos.”

“We urge religious leaders to use their platforms to participate in addressing such social problems and encourage peace,” he said.

He also urged the church to engage the holdout groups in the ongoing peace process, emphasising the important role Jehovah’s Witnesses play in promoting moral values.

Additionally, he stated that the state government will prioritise peace and unity while addressing insecurity throughout the state.

Alfred Faustino, a representative of Jehovah’s Witnesses, praised the governor’s leadership and his commitment to fostering peace and development.

He characterised his visit as “an honour that enhances mutual respect and understanding with Jehovah’s Witnesses.”
