"We Dare where others fear"

The Executive Director of the Centre for Peace and Advocacy (CPA), Ter Manyang Gatwech, is urgently calling on the Government of South Sudan to take immediate action to relocate the flood-affected people from Fangak to neighbouring Ayod County.
Gatwech stated that over 100,000 people have been affected, following the destruction of critical dykes by heavy waters in Old Fangak.
“Relocating the displaced population to Ayod County is a practical and immediate solution. The people of Fangak and Ayod share deep historical and cultural ties, a bond which will ease the integration process and foster solidarity during this humanitarian crisis,” said Gatwech in a statement.
“The persistent flooding, which has plagued the region since 2019, continues to pose a serious threat to human life—especially for women, children, and the elderly,” he added.
Gatwech has called on the Government, relevant ministries, and humanitarian organisations to urgently support the safe movement and temporary resettlement of affected populations.
CPA also extended its appreciation to humanitarian organisations such as Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) for their unwavering support to the people of Fangak County over the years.
“MSF has stood with the community from day one, and their dedication deserves recognition and support,” Gatwech remarked.
“It is the responsibility of every government to protect its citizens from natural disasters like floods; we cannot allow this crisis to persist without action,” he concluded.
