The Vice President for the Service Cluster, Josephine Lagu Yanga, on Sunday called on citizens to embrace peace and unity to foster development in the country.
Lagu made this call while addressing a congregation at St. Charles Lwanga Chapel in Juba during Holy Mass presided over by Dr. Stephen Cardinal Ameyu Martin Mulla, Metropolitan Archbishop of Juba.
“Our country is going through a difficult time, but it is important that we stay together in peace and in love,” Lagu said in a statement posted by the Press Unit on Sunday.
She stressed the need for the church to play a crucial role in fostering peace and reconciliation in the country.
“The Church of God is what will bring us together and unite our people.”
She encouraged the faithful to remain steadfast in building both the physical and spiritual house of God.
“As St. Paul said, in Christ we are a new creation; the old has gone, and the new has come.”
For his part, Dr. Stephen Cardinal Ameyu Martin Mulla, Metropolitan Archbishop of Juba, preached about resurrection, humility, and the call to unity.
“The Kingdom of God begins here on earth. We must invite everyone into the banquet of the Lord without discrimination,” said Ameyu.
The Cardinal reminded the faithful that the righteous are those who listen to and practise the Word of God.
“The Church is for all of us together, not as Lotuko, Madi, Acholi, Bari, or any tribe, but as one body in Christ,” he said.
He called on the faithful to build bridges of friendship across parishes, dioceses, and communities as a way of strengthening unity.
