The visiting Rotary District Governor, Wairimu Njage, who leads District 9212 covering Kenya, South Sudan, Ethiopia, and Eritrea, announced that she will meet with government officials in South Sudan to introduce Rotary’s work.
Rotary focuses on seven key areas of service, including disease prevention, maternal and child health, water and sanitation, environmental conservation, economic development, and peacebuilding.
“We will share our stories of impact. I will review projects that the clubs have been undertaking to serve and support the communities around them,” said Njage on arrival at Juba International Airport.
“I will be meeting with government officials to introduce rotary to them. Rotary focuses on seven areas, these include disease prevention and treatment, maternal and child health, water sanitation and hygiene, environment conservation, community economic development, peace building and conflict resolution,” she said.
Njage said the district 9212 which covers South Sudan, is part of rotary international, which consists of over 500 districts, adding that the district governor, every year, visits the countries that he or she is leading.
“I will be focusing on what we are achieving in our community and finally seeking to identify other areas of opportunity in terms of partnership and collaboration with stakeholders, whether government officials or organizations,” she said.
Emmanuel Agwella, the country chair for rotary, said South Sudan is working closely with other rotary clubs in the region, mainly clubs from four countries in the region including clubs from Kenya, Ethiopia and Eritrea.
“We want to just give such that humanity enjoys the fruit of rotary, in the last rotary year Rotarians from all around the world donated over 500 million dollars towards the rotary foundation,” said Agwella.
“We hope that we are going to add more members because more hands together means a lot of achievement, rotary is about giving more than receiving so we are excited that we are giving, we give and we don’t know who is going to benefit from our services,” he said.
The visiting Rotary District Governor is serving a year-long term to provide leadership, inspiration, and guidance to the Rotary clubs of four countries in the region including four rotary clubs establish in South Sudan.
Rotary Foundation, founded as Rotary Club of Chicago in 1905 by attorney Paul Harris, quickly grew into a global network, with its mission expanded from professional networking to significant humanitarian work, with a major focus on polio eradication and community development.
