Heavy Rain Cuts Off Road Linking Pochalla and Pibor

Severe rain in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) has cut off the road connecting Greater Pochalla to the main town of Pibor.

Severe rain in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) has cut off the road connecting Greater Pochalla to the main town of Pibor.

Flooding has destroyed homes and farmlands, leaving many families vulnerable.

Gola Boyoi Gola, Chief Administrator of GPAA, stated that it is now difficult to access the town of Pibor following the damage to the road caused by heavy downpour last week.

“The issue of Greater Pochalla being cut off from the capital of the Greater Pibor administrative area,” Gola told SSBC after his meeting with Vice President Benjamin Bol Mel on Tuesday in Juba.

Gola noted that the floods caused by the recent downpour have made the movement of essential goods and people extremely difficult.

“There needs to be road connectivity so that they can be part of the activities and development projects coming from the states.”

Gola disclosed that he also discussed with Vice President Benjamin Bol the necessity of renovating the Juba-Pibor Road to facilitate the movement of people and their goods.

“I have also discussed with him the issue of the Juba-Pibor Road, which is very important and plays a crucial role in terms of service delivery and humanitarian assistance,” he said.

“I have also talked about the opening of the land border. His Excellency the Vice President promised to discuss these issues with the President and see what can be done to help the people of the Greater Pibor Administrative Area.”

He stated that VP Bol promised to support the people and the government of the Greater Pibor Administrative Area in terms of service delivery and to improve security.

More than 100 households have been displaced after heavy flooding affected parts of Pochalla South County in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area.

The disaster occurred when the Kobu River, swollen by days of continuous rainfall, overflowed its banks, sweeping through several villages and forcing families to flee their homes in search of higher ground.
