"We Dare where others fear"

The Governor of Jonglei State, Dr Riek Gai Kok, has tasked the newly appointed mayor of Bor municipality, Dr Agot Alier, who took office on Friday in a large ceremony, to address the development gaps in Bor.
Kok urged the new mayor to confront the developmental challenges ahead with dedication and a results-oriented approach, describing this as the only way to create a lasting legacy in the history of Jonglei State.
“I remind you that public service is a public trust. You are stepping into this role at a time when this administration is committed to achieving more robust, enduring, and inclusive development,” Kok stated during the handover ceremony in Bor.
He also emphasised the importance of hard work, dedication, commitment, loyalty, and selfless service, reminding the new mayor of his statutory responsibilities to assist the state government in achieving its objectives.
Ateny Pech, Bor County Commissioner, noted that the appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening public service, making it more responsive and vibrant, in line with the aspirations of the people of Jonglei State.
Achiek Machar, the outgoing mayor of Bor Municipality, described the reshuffle as routine and reminded his successor that serving in public office is fundamentally about delivering services to the community.
Dr Agot Alier expressed gratitude to Governor Kok for the trust placed in him and pledged to fully implement the reform agenda outlined by the Jonglei State government.
“The charge you have given me will be fulfilled with your usual support,” Alier stated, reiterating his commitment to serving the communities under the leadership of Dr Kok, the Governor of Jonglei State.
