The Governor of Jonglei State, Dr Riek Gai Kok, has directed security agencies to hunt down the Red Belt group, which is allegedly responsible for the recent violent attacks that left three security officers dead in Bor.

Last week, two separate violent incidents occurred: the first was a clash between the Nyara and Pariak communities, and the second involved a firefight between national security forces and a local armed group known as the Red Belt. These incidents resulted in two fatalities and four injuries in Bor.

In a joint statement issued on Monday, Governor Kok instructed all relevant security and law enforcement agencies to take immediate and decisive action to hold the perpetrators accountable.

“We urge our hardworking National Security Forces and sister security agencies to deploy all available intelligence and operational tools to identify, isolate, and bring the killers of our people to justice,” Kok stated.

Kok further reminded all residents that harbouring or aiding criminal elements constitutes a serious offence, adding that anyone who supports these attacks will also face legal repercussions.

“Anyone found cooperating with these groups will face the full force of the law,” Kok warned.

He revealed that the state government has issued directives to both the Bor County Commissioner, Ateny Pech, and the Town Mayor, Dr Agot Alier, to reinforce local laws and strengthen enforcement mechanisms aimed at curbing criminal activity.

Nyamar Lony, the Minister of Information and Communication in Jonglei State, expressed deep appreciation to the national government and the National Security Service for their swift and patriotic response.

Ateny Pech, the Commissioner of Bor County, urged citizens to cooperate fully with the military and other security agencies. “Report any suspicious activities, movements, or persons. Your vigilance is key to restoring peace,” Pech told the residents of Bor.
