President Kiir Orders Army to Stay Out of Politics

President Salva Kiir Mayardit, Commander-in-Chief of the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF), has directed the army to stay away from politics and instead focus on its constitutional mandate of defending the nation, its people, and their property.

The President made the remarks on Thursday during a leadership handover ceremony at the Military Headquarters in Bilpham, where Gen. Dr. Paul Nang Majok officially assumed the role of Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), succeeding Gen. Dau Aturjong Nyuol.

In a statement released through the Presidential Press Unit’s Facebook page, President Kiir emphasized the importance of discipline within the ranks and urged the new army leadership to continue advancing the military’s transformation agenda.

He further directed the leadership to prioritize the welfare of soldiers, serve the nation with integrity and loyalty, and work collectively to safeguard peace, security, and national unity.

Senior officials at the Eagle House noted that the change of command reflects ongoing efforts to consolidate a professional and unified national army as South Sudan continues its transition toward peace, stability, and institutional reform.
