A proud moment for South Sudan’s aviation sector as twelve newly trained Air Traffic Controllers, including four  trailblazing female, complete their professional training at the East African School of Aviation (EASA) in Nairobi, Kenya.

The graduation ceremony showcased participants from the Republic of South Sudan, Eswatini, Namibia, Angola, Uganda, Somalia, Comoros, and Kenya, highlighting regional cooperation in advancing global aviation standards.

In a statement posted on the South Sudan Civil Aviation official Facebook page last week, Meen Chol Majur, Training Programs Manager for the South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority,  congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to maintain their dedication to excellence in aviation.

He stated that these achievements also reflect SSCAA’s ongoing commitment to gender inclusion and the expansion of opportunities for women in the aviation profession, thus ensuring a more diverse and empowered future workforce.

“The South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority (SSCAA) celebrates this milestone as a significant boost to its operational capacity and a testament to its commitment to developing skilled aviation professionals who ensure the safety, efficiency, and modernisation of South Sudan’s airspace,” said Majur.

He noted that these South Sudanese controllers underwent nine months of intensive training in Approach Control, Aerodrome Control, and Area Control, fully aligned with ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) and EASA’s national training requirements.

The ceremony was officiated by Dr. Oliver Sindabi, Acting Director of EASA, who awarded certificates alongside EASA technical instructors from various aviation disciplines and representatives from the SSCAA.
