"We Dare where others fear"

By Simon Deng
The mayor of Bor Municipal Council, Agot Alier Leek, has issued an order officially prohibiting civilians from carrying firearms, spears, machetes, and other weapons within Bor town, the state capital.
In a statement seen by the Dawn on Monday, Leek revealed that the authorities in Bor have banned the carrying of firearms and other dangerous weapons in public as part of new security measures aimed at curbing random shootings and improving public safety.
“We have issued several provisional orders against moving around town with illegal weapons, including sharp objects like spears and pangas, and we have prohibited random shooting, especially during celebrations,” Leek stated.
The order cited concerns regarding “the presence of civilians who move around Bor town, some of whom wear different uniforms of organised forces while carrying guns and other sharp weapons.”
Leek stated that the order prohibits the possession of guns, spears, pangas, and other sharp objects within the town limits, adding that anyone found violating the directive will face legal consequences, including disciplinary measures such as arrest.
Leek also disclosed that the authorities have banned the brewing and sale of alcohol and drugs, which often contribute to rising crime and disorder in Bor town. He added that security forces have been directed to strictly enforce the new orders and ensure that offenders face penalties.
The implementation and enforcement of the security order have been entrusted to the State Police Service, National Security Service, State Military Police, traditional chiefs, and local Block leaders.
