The Transitional Government of National unity on Tuesday, commended development partners for their crucial role in strengthening community resilience and helping targeted households in the Greater Upper Nile region achieve both economic and food security. This marks a significant step toward sustainable recovery and stability in the area.

Denis Marial, the Undersecretary for the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, praised the partners for their efforts to empower women, youth, and communities to ensure long-term sustainability in vulnerable areas.

“The Government of South Sudan highly values the commitment and dedication of the THRIVE consortium(Transforming household resilience through inclusive economic development in South sudan), whose collective efforts are transforming the lives of households and communities in the most vulnerable regions of our country,” Marial said on Tuesday at the Afex Hotel during the exhibition of the THRIVE programme.

“The Transforming Household Resilience through Inclusive Economic Development programme is making a profound difference in the lives of women, youth, and communities across Greater Upper Nile,” he added.

Silvester Nyangan  Thrive Project Director, explained that the initiative is designed to strengthen the resilience of communities affected by conflict and climate change through inclusive economic development across South Sudan.

“Resilience is not merely a reaction to crisis, but a foundation for growth. This initiative aims to bolster livelihoods and local systems. We are demonstrating that resilience begins at the grassroots level and grows through shared commitment,” said Nyangan.

Phyllis Jepkorir, the Country Director for GOAL, stated that the programme, which is designed to withstand conflict and climate shocks, aims to create inclusive and competitive market systems while ensuring that targeted households achieve economic and food security.

“THRIVE is more than just a project; it embodies courage, creativity, and self-reliance. THRIVE empowers people to lead change. The project aims to reach households with integrated interventions that address challenges and promote sustainable livelihoods,” Jepkorir remarked.

The THRIVE programme, led by GOAL in partnership with Mercy Corps and VSF Suisse, is a four-year initiative set to benefit 120,000 households through integrated interventions across eight counties, including Nasir, Fashoda, Akobo, and Rubkona in the Greater Upper Nile region.
