Government Deploys Security Forces, Sets Up Special Court to Resolve Hol-Ayual Conflict

The Minister of information and communication in Jonglei state, Nyamar Lony Thichot Ngundeng, has announced that the government has deployed security operatives and established a special court to address the conflict between the Ayual and Hol communities.

The Minister of information and communication in Jonglei state, Nyamar Lony Thichot Ngundeng,  has announced that the government has deployed security operatives and established a special court to address the conflict between the Ayual and Hol communities.

“The government of Jonglei State, under the leadership of Governor Dr. Riek Gai Kok, will take substantial measures to tackle communal conflict and ensure that the people of Jonglei live in peace, harmony, and stability for peaceful coexistence,” Ngundeng stated on Saturday.

In a related matter, the Chief Justice of South Sudan, Dr. Benjamin Baak Deng, has ordered the establishment of the special court to hold accountable all suspects involved in the communal conflict between Hol and Ayual, she added.

Ngundeng expressed deep appreciation to President Salva Kiir Mayardit for ordering the deployment of joint security forces to Jonglei, noting that this deployment will help restore peace and tranquility in the areas affected by conflict.

Furthermore, Ngundeng urged local authorities, county commissioners, and traditional leaders to fully support and cooperate with the deployed security forces and the judges of the special court.

She also reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, emphasising that communities across Jonglei State are encouraged to promote peace and harmony for peaceful coexistence.

“The deployment of joint forces is vital for resolving the communal conflict that has persisted since October 2023 between the Hol community of Duk County and the Ayual community of Twic East County,” she concluded.
