The Chairperson of the National Constitution Review Commission (NCRC), Riang Yier Zuor, has announced that four additional teams will be dispatched to Central Equatoria, Jonglei, Warrap, and Western Equatoria states to conduct civic education and public consultations on key constitutional issues.
This initiative, undertaken in collaboration with national and state governments as well as development partners, aims to ensure broad public participation in the constitution-making process.
“We are pleased to announce that the commission, in collaboration with partners, national and state governments, will be sending four additional teams to the states of Central Equatoria, Jonglei, Warrap, and Western Equatoria to conduct civic education and public consultations on constitutional matters,” said Zuor during a press conference in Juba on Thursday.
Zuor revealed that following a month-long civic education and public consultation in these four states, the commission will then move to Upper Nile and Unity states, as well as the three administrative areas of Ruweng, Greater Pibor, and the Abyei Special Administrative Area.
John Natana Abraham, the Secretary General of the National Constitution Review Commission, expressed their commitment to making civic education and public consultation a people-driven process.
“Our goal remains to make the constitution-making process a people-driven initiative; we will reach out to various groups, particularly representatives of different stakeholders,” Abraham stated.
In October, the National Constitution Review Commission dispatched civic education and public consultation teams to engage with the grassroots level on the constitution-making process in Eastern Equatoria, Lakes, Western Bahr El Ghazel, and Northern Bahr El Ghazel states.
