The University of Juba on Saturday held its 27th convocation ceremony at the main campus, graduating more than 2,800 students from various undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
More than 2,800 students, including undergraduates who received diplomas and bachelor’s degrees, as well as postgraduate students who obtained master’s and doctoral degrees, celebrated their achievements across various schools and disciplines.
Josephine Joseph Lagu, the Vice President and Chairperson of the Service Cluster, represented the Chancellor and President, Salva Kiir Mayardit.
She revealed that the government is committed to supporting education across the country. In her remarks, Lagu praised the graduates for their resilience in pursuing their academic studies, describing the graduation ceremony as a symbol of national progress.
“We appreciate the leadership of the university for ensuring the delivery of quality education. The government is committed to ensuring access to quality higher education,” said Lagu.
Professor Robert Mayom Deng, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Juba, noted that the university serves more than 43,000 students, emphasising that integrity and humility are the hallmarks of true success for the institution.
Madut Biar Yel, the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, urged the graduates to become job creators rather than job seekers, adding that innovation is critical for economic growth.
“I am urging you to be job creators, not job seekers. The government can employ only a small number; you need to create jobs to improve the livelihoods of your families and to participate fully in the development of our country,” said Yel.
