"We Dare where others fear"

Lakes State Governor Rin Tueny Mabor has called on the newly appointed Mayor of Rumbek Municipality to reform and streamline the administrative structure to enhance service delivery.
Governor Mabor highlighted that the municipal government previously operated with three deputies responsible for administration and finance, infrastructure, and other sectors—a structure he deemed unnecessary.
“The Municipality should be governed by only the Mayor and one Deputy. The remaining roles should be organised as departments under your proposed structure, which I will be ready to endorse,” Mabor stated.
He emphasised that the Municipality is tasked with protecting and promoting the business community, as well as maintaining hygiene and sanitation to ensure a clean and healthy town. The Governor urged the new leadership to foster strong working relationships with all state institutions rather than functioning in isolation.
Mabor also expressed concern about the increase in drug abuse among gangs, noting that it exacerbates assaults and insecurity within the town. Despite limited financial resources, he stated that Lakes State possesses sufficient human resources that can be effectively utilised.
The State Minister for Local Government and Law Enforcement, Mabor Meen Wol, encouraged the newly appointed municipal officials to serve the population with dedication, highlighting that local government acts as a bridge between the Municipality and the State Authority as defined in the Local Government Act.
He urged cooperation with the Rumbek Central County Commissioner and warned against conflicts over revenue and resources between municipal and county authorities.
“The rules of trade must be respected to avoid mistrust and disputes with the business community. Appointing individuals with personal interests to areas such as vehicle parks and auctions can lead to revenue conflicts between the State Revenue Authority and the Municipality,” Wol cautioned.
He stressed that addressing the issue of gangs and street children—who contribute to rising insecurity—is a core responsibility of the Municipality.
He urged the new leadership to give this matter serious attention to safeguard the future and lives of the youth.
The newly appointed Mayor of Rumbek Municipality, Kuol Mathubier Kucdhal, pledged to work closely with residents to transform the town.
He promised to enhance the appearance of Rumbek, promote peace, and ensure that development becomes a top priority.
“We will create a conducive environment where business people can operate freely and confidently every day,” Mayor Kuol said.
