The President of the South Sudan Paralympic Committee, Peter Baptist Abaker, has announced a renewed commitment to advocating for athletes with impairments, promoting grassroots participation, and building national teams.
The committee also aims to instil the core Paralympic values of courage, determination, inspiration, and equality across the country, fostering a more inclusive sporting environment.
“At this General Assembly, Coach Hung Se Lim has been elected as Honorary President of the South Sudan Paralympic Committee,” said Abaker, the President of the South Sudan Paralympic Committee, during the closing of the general assembly meeting at Crown Hotel in Juba. “This adoption and election represent a pivotal step forward for parasports in South Sudan; the Constitution provides the foundation, and this dedicated Executive Committee will now focus on athlete development, promoting inclusion, and building pathways for our para-athletes to compete nationally and internationally,” said Abaker.
The South Sudan Paralympic Committee (SSPC) recently adopted a new constitution, formed its inaugural Executive Board, and elected Hung Se Lim, the Korean football coach, as its honorary president.
Hung Se Lim, who has previously worked in South Sudan as the adult football team coach, is now working for junior football teams as well as serving as the Vice President of the South Sudan Olympic Committee. The Assembly elected its inaugural Executive Committee with Peter Baptist Abaker as President, Hakim Chris as Vice President, Aisha Tombe as Second Vice President, Kim Joak Bany as Secretary General, and Simon Dhoal as Treasurer.
Five other members of the South Sudan Paralympic Committee will be representatives elected from various National Paralympic Sports Federations and Associations.
The South Sudan Paralympic Committee (SSPC) is the sole governing body for parasports in South Sudan, recognised by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). Its mission is to develop and promote sports opportunities for athletes with physical, visual, and intellectual impairments nationwide.
