The Deputy Governor of Central Equatoria State Paulino Lukudu Obede on Tuesday, commissioned the rehabilitation and demarcation of a 53 km road connecting Juba city to Lokiliri.
This project is located in Jokokwe Boma within Lokiliri Payam of Juba County.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Jacob Aligo Lo-Lado, the state’s acting minister of information and communication, stated that this initiative is part of the state government’s policy to enhance road network systems.
“We made a stop in Jokokwe, North Boma, to launch a 53-kilometre road that will be opened by the Payam administration,” Aligo said.
He added that the road network will improve transportation in Lokiliri Payam of Juba County.
“This is a very important and positive step because when these roads are opened, the owners of the plots will be invited by the area administration to hand over their plots,” he explained.
Aligo stated that the demarcation of land aligns with the state government’s plans to improve road access and expand the city to reduce overpopulation in Juba.
“This step is crucial because it will help the state government decongest Juba city, which is facing many settlement-related issues.”
For his part, Emmanuel Tete Ezbon, Commissioner of Juba County, mentioned that they are working to ensure that roads are opened to ease the movement of people.
“We have come here to launch the road construction project and hand over the land to the rightful owners. The project to open the road is a state initiative,” said Ezbon.
He also noted that the state government had handed over an ambulance, which he said enhances the community’s capacity to respond to medical emergencies in a bid to save lives.
“We have also come here to deliver ambulances equipped with drugs to Lokiliri Payam and the community of Lokiliri to assist residents with health services.”
Juma Katanga Biringi, Payam Director of Lokiliri, affirmed that rightful plot owners will be allocated their land to combat land grabbing.
Katanga urged individuals with land documents in Northern Nesitu (Jokokowe) to follow up with the Payam Administration for plot allocation.
