The country commissioner of Mvolo County in Western Equatoria state has launched a new community initiative focused on improving public hygiene and supporting soldiers stationed in Mvolo.

Addressing community members on Wednesday, Hon. Ajok emphasised that both activities—the general cleaning and local contributions for soldiers—must be effectively implemented by the people of Mvolo County.

He urged residents to take responsibility for keeping their environment clean at all times to prevent criminal activities and minimise health risks.

“This programme we are launching today should not stop here. It must continue as an ongoing activity because we need our environment to look good at all times,” Ajok stated. “A clean environment prevents the outbreak of diseases and ensures that criminals do not find places to hide.”

Additionally, the Commissioner encouraged community members to contribute any resources they can to support the soldiers safeguarding the town. He stressed the importance of maintaining morale among the troops to avoid situations where security personnel might abandon their duties due to a lack of basic provisions.

“If we don’t support our soldiers, they may be forced to look for other ways to earn a living instead of protecting the community. Everyone’s contribution matters, and we must acknowledge the crisis we are facing in South Sudan,” Ajok remarked.

To ensure compliance with the environmental cleanup effort, Hon. Ajok announced that in a few weeks, local officials will conduct inspections across Mvolo town. Residents who fail to clean their plots will face fines as part of the enforcement measures.

The initiative reflects a broader effort to enhance community cooperation, public health, and security in Mvolo County, reinforcing the importance of collective responsibility in building a safer and healthier society.
