The chairperson of the South Sudan National Youth Union, Mr. Paride Taban, has arrived in Yambio for an official visit aimed at enhancing youth engagement throughout Western Equatoria State.
Mr. Taban received a warm welcome from the Chairperson of the Western Equatoria State Youth Union, Mr. Silvestor Ruti, the Minister of Youth, Culture, and Sports, representatives from women and youth groups, and the Acting Governor of Western Equatoria State, Hon. Bakoyogo James Severino.
During the reception, Mr. Taban emphasised that his visit would focus on listening to young people’s concerns and working with them to identify solutions for accelerated development.
“Youth are the backbone of this nation. We need to stand strong and bring everlasting peace among ourselves, instead of engaging in criminal activities that will only hinder our future,” he stated.
He further stressed the importance of providing safe and inclusive spaces where young people can share ideas and collaborate on development initiatives.
The Acting Governor, Hon. Severino, welcomed Mr. Taban and called on youth to cooperate fully with their national leader during his time in the state.
“Freedom of expression in daily life is key to youth progress. The youth of Western Equatoria need regular capacity-building training, especially after the difficulties faced during the 2021 conflicts,” said Hon. Severino.
“Youth in Western Equatoria State are hardworking because the majority have opened their small businesses to earn a living. It needs more opportunities and regular training for the youth across South Sudan,” said Severino.
He assured the National Youth Union that the security situation in the state is relatively calm, thanks to routine patrols by organised forces, allowing communities to feel safe in their neighbourhoods.
