The Speaker of the Transitional Western Equatoria State Legislative Assembly, Rt. Hon. Wakila Charles Ngamunde, has reaffirmed the lawmakers’ dedication to public service, stating that the reopening of the Assembly reflects their continued commitment despite the economic hardships facing the state and the country.

“We thank Almighty God for His protection that has enabled us to gather here today. This reopening reflects our commitment to service, despite the economic challenges facing our state and nation,” Hon. Ngamunde said during the Assembly’s reopening yesterday.

She commended the acting Governor for his leadership in facilitating the reopening, highlighting it as a sign of the government’s commitment to legislative processes.

“This effort underscores the government’s recognition of the Assembly as a vital arm of governance.”

“As we reopen this Parliament today, it is crucial for us as lawmakers to translate the challenges facing our constituencies into effective laws and policies that will govern this state.”

She urged absent members to rejoin the Assembly promptly so that they may fulfill their duties with unity and resolve.

The Speaker’s appeal reflected a renewed commitment to legislative service and community representation.

The Acting Governor of Western Equatoria State, H.E. Daniel Badagbu Rimbasa, urged all honourable members to commence their work earnestly, emphasising that both the state and national governments are working hard to overcome the challenges facing the country.

“The Assembly is an independent institution that collaborates with everyone and does not sideline anyone. We, the sitting members, must begin today with a strong commitment to addressing the challenges we face in the state and in the country,” Badagbu said.

Hon. Badagbu added that they will work hand in hand with the Assembly to ensure that all honourable members can effectively carry out their duties during this critical period, relying on revenue collection.

The reopening sets the tone for legislative activities in the months ahead, as Western Equatoria State seeks stability, accountability, and progress in 2025.

A significant milestone in governance was marked yesterday as the Transitional Western Equatoria State Legislative Assembly officially reopened for its first session of 2025.
