The Government of Jonglei State has announced its annual scholarship programme, which will sponsor 100 students in various academic disciplines at Debre Tabor University in Ethiopia.

Makuei Achol Thiong, the Chairperson of the Scholarship Management Committee, stated that the committee has opened the application process and encouraged eligible students to apply for their preferred fields of study.

“This scholarship programme is a milestone in our efforts to invest in the future of Jonglei’s youth. We urge students to seize this opportunity and pursue their academic dreams,” said Thiong during the official opening of the application process in Bor, Jonglei State.

The scholarship, which does not include air transport tickets, visas, or residence permits, covers various academic fields in undergraduate studies, including a Bachelor of Medicine, Law, Civil Engineering, and Computer Science, as well as postgraduate studies in Information Technology, Animal Production, and Environmental and Natural Resources Economics, among others.

Thiong expressed deep appreciation for the government’s efforts in strengthening the education sector, adding that this initiative reinforces Jonglei State’s commitment to educational advancement and youth empowerment.

“The committee also extended gratitude to Debre Tabor University for its strong cooperation and shared vision in supporting the students of Jonglei State,” Thiong said.

“This scholarship programme reflects a strategic partnership aimed at fostering academic excellence, regional collaboration, and long-term development,” he added.

Thiong concluded that interested applicants should submit their applications to the State Ministry of Education and Instruction in Bor, as well as the coordination offices of the counties in Bor and the Jonglei State Coordination Office in Juba.

The programme was officially launched by the Scholarship Management Committee, chaired by Makuei Achol Thiong, alongside Puok Tut Rang Jock, Deputy Chairperson, and Duol Kuey Deng, Committee Member of the Jonglei State Scholarship Management Committee.

In June 2025, the Governor of Jonglei State, Dr Riek Gai Kok, signed a scholarship deal with Dr Meaberu Teshome Zeleke, the Vice President for Academic and Research Affairs at Debre Tabor University, securing 100 scholarship slots, including 80 slots for undergraduate students and 20 slots for postgraduate students from Jonglei State.
