Lakes State Governor Gen. Rin Tueny Mabor has sworn in newly appointed officials, including Dr. Martin John Machiek as Minister of Legal and Parliamentary Affairs and Abraham Chol Bolek as Chairperson of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission.

The ceremony took place on Monday, during which the governor urged them to prioritise the implementation of the revitalised peace agreement signed in September 2018.

Dr. Martin John Machiek succeeds Thon Kuat Chol Maker as Minister of Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, while Abraham Chol Bolek takes over from Bub Achiek Marial as Chairperson of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission.

The governor called on the newly appointed officials to champion peace and protect the civilian population in the state, safeguarding their lives and property.

He emphasised that food security is a collective responsibility that must be addressed at the grassroots level, as Lakes State’s organic produce is exported to other states, fostering inter-state relations.

“Salary issues remain a major concern for citizens across the nation. H.E. the President of the Republic of South Sudan, Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, is working diligently with the economic cluster to ensure the timely disbursement of monthly payments to civil servants and to organise security forces following their recent meeting last month”.

The governor also advised the newly appointed Minister of Legal and Parliamentary Affairs to cooperate with state judiciaries and the Department of Legal Affairs within the state secretariat. Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission should focus on counties at risk of flooding, including Rumbek East, Rumbek Centre, Cueibet, Yirol West, Awerial, and parts of Wulu.

In response, the newly appointed Minister of Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. Martin John Machiek, stated that he will work closely with state leadership to implement the policies of Lakes State.
