The Lakes State Ministry of General Education and Instruction has officially graduated 60 students from its TVET program, which offers training in skills such as tailoring, computer applications, catering and hotel management, and hairdressing.
This inclusive initiative is supported by Oxfam and implemented by DARD, a national organisation based in Rumbek, with funding from BMZ.
The program is technically supervised by the State Ministry of General Education and Instruction, in collaboration with the State Ministry of Labour, Public Service, and Human Resource Development, according to the State Director General for General Education and Instruction, Mr. Gabriel Maluac Yak.
Yak also stated that the implementing partners, alongside government counterparts, encouraged the graduates to use their skills and knowledge effectively.
“These courses are marketable and will definitely change the lifestyle of individuals who consistently practice the skills across various sectors. Kits were distributed among the trainees to enable each one to start their own business in town,” he said.
Yak expressed appreciation for the graduands and the entire Lakes State government, led by Governor H.E. Rin Tueny Mabor, for creating an enabling environment that allows such activities to occur without fear of security threats.
“This technical training will help reduce unemployment in the state. The State Minister for General Education and Instruction, Nelson Makoi Makur, is fostering cooperation with all education partners, as more progress is in the pipeline to be delivered across the state,” he added.
He emphasised that the government of Lakes State is committed to enhancing productivity in technical schools that support economic growth, noting that individuals without university certificates can still work independently through the skills they have acquired.
