The Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio has firmly rejected social media claims accusing it of involvement in transporting weapons.

Church authorities have described the allegations as false and misleading, reaffirming the Diocese’s commitment to peace and service to the community.

The Diocese, led by Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala, has condemned the accusations as untrue and detrimental to peace efforts in South Sudan.

In a statement dated August 24, 2025, CDTY Chancellor Rev. Fr. Dominic Agbia Sasa addressed the public, expressing deep concern over what he termed “malicious propaganda” circulating online.

The claims suggest that the Diocese and its Bishop are linked to arms transportation, an allegation the Church categorically denies.

In his statement, he urged those behind the harmful propaganda to reflect on their consciences, emphasising that South Sudan has suffered enough. “Let us use every platform to build, not destroy. As Kofi Annan wisely said: ‘We must have different religions, different languages, different colours of skin, but we all belong to one human race.’”

“These rumours are not only baseless but also dangerously misleading. Our Diocese stands for peace, reconciliation, and the spiritual upliftment of our people, not violence.”

The Chancellor highlighted the Diocese’s longstanding commitment to evangelisation, education, and community development.

Rev. Fr. Dominic warned that such misinformation could destabilise the region and undermine trust in religious institutions.

“We urge the public to reject these lies and stand with us in truth. The Church is not a vehicle for conflict; it is a sanctuary for healing and unity.”

He also called on government authorities and security agencies to investigate the origin of the claims and hold those responsible accountable.

“We appeal to the relevant institutions to act swiftly. Those who manufacture and spread such deceit must be brought to justice. We cannot allow peace to be sabotaged by rumour.”

The statement concluded with a reaffirmation of the Church’s mission and a call for continued prayers and solidarity from the faithful.

The Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio continues its work for peace and development, urging all citizens to remain vigilant against misinformation.
