The President of the South Sudan Business Community, Ayii Duang Ayii, has urged newly appointed ministers to collaborate with private sector institutions to accelerate development and revive the struggling economy.

“As a business community, we are calling on newly appointed ministers to work closely with the private sector to rescue the dwindling economy. We need support for agriculture to boost production,” Duang stated during a press conference held at the South Sudan Hotel in Juba on Tuesday.

“We urge the Vice President and Chairperson of the Economic Cluster to convene a conference to discuss the dire economic situation and seek amicable solutions to the crisis affecting people across the country,” he added.

Duang also congratulated the newly appointed officials, including Athian Diing Athian, Minister of Finance; Adut Salva Kiir, Presidential Envoy on Special Programmes; Joseph Muom Majak, Minister of Investment; and Joseph Geng Akech, Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.

“We hope that those appointed are not new to these issues and that they will work diligently to address the problems we face. We need solutions because people are suffering,” he said.

“If the private sector receives the necessary support, it will become a source of employment. Our young people will find jobs, with 90 percent of them likely to be accommodated by the private sector, which will also help reduce corruption in the public sector,” he remarked.

This appeal comes amid public outcry over the high cost of basic necessities, worsened by the struggling economy, as South Sudan heavily relies on imported goods from neighbouring countries.
