Western Equatoria State marked a significant milestone on Tuesday as newly appointed state officials were sworn in during a ceremony in the state capital, Yambio, where they pledged their commitment to peace and development.
The event was attended by a diverse array of dignitaries, including State Governor H.E. James Al Tabi Berapai, Deputy Governor H.E. Justin Joseph Marona, a judge from the High Court of South Sudan, Members of Parliament, and representatives from various political parties, church leaders, and women’s groups.
The swearing-in ceremony followed the recent appointment of state officials by the President of the Republic of South Sudan, H.E. General Salva Kiir Mayardit. The new leadership team comprises advisors, ministers, the Chairperson of the Commission, and the Yambio County Commissioner.
In his address to the newly sworn-in officials, the Deputy Governor Justin Joseph Marona emphasised the importance of collaboration and unity.
“Now that the new leadership is in place, we need to work together for this state,” he stated. “As you commit yourselves to your duties, collaborate closely with the state government to better serve our communities.”
He reassured citizens of the new administration’s commitment to peace and security, saying, “Our mandate is to bring peace to our communities who are yearning for stability. I personally call for teamwork from all of us.”
Governor James Al Tabi Berapai expressed gratitude to the officials for accepting their appointments and urged them to adhere to the directives of the national leadership.
“Today is your day. As you resume your duties, cooperate and seek guidance from your senior leaders,” he remarked. “We are all new in this state, and we must work hand in hand to bring peace, security, and social harmony as directed by our president.”
He also extended an olive branch to those still in the bush, urging them to return peacefully and engage in dialogue.
“Come back home with empty hands and share the reasons behind the violence. Let the state and national government understand the root causes.”
Hon. Michael Ismail, the newly appointed Yambio County Commissioner, thanked the president for his trust and pledged to provide inclusive leadership.
“I will not discriminate against anyone in this county. I’m ready to work with everyone and deliver better services,” he affirmed.
Hon. Grace Apollo Musa, State Advisor on the Economic Cluster, committed to addressing financial challenges and accelerating development.
“I will ensure the state has sufficient funds. The issue of cash shortages will not occur again. We will work together for rapid development.”
The ceremony marks the beginning of a new chapter for Western Equatoria State, with leaders pledging to prioritise peace, unity, and development. As the officials assume their roles, citizens are hopeful that the new leadership will foster lasting change and address the pressing needs of
