The South Sudan National Bureau of Standards (SSNBS) has prohibited the unauthorized use of symbols and logos by producers and manufacturers.
Gloria Nyoka Joseph Lasu, Executive Director of the National Bureau of Standards, stated that this decision aims to prevent the abuse or misuse of these symbols and logos.
“The South Sudan National Bureau of Standards (SSNBS) has observed concerns regarding the unlawful use of the official logo and symbols by certain manufacturers and producers on product labels,” read part of the order seen by the Dawn on Friday.
Nyoka stated that institutions using these symbols and logos for commercial purposes would face penalties in accordance with the regulations.
“This constitutes a violation of the National Bureau of Standards Act, 2012, and the Quality Mark Regulations, 2021, and is subject to penalties including fines or imprisonment.”
She emphasised that punitive measures would be taken against those who violate this order.
“Additionally, all manufacturers, producers, and stakeholders are hereby directed to cease the use of any unauthorized SSNBS marks, logos, or symbols with immediate effect,” she said.
“Ensure full compliance from the date of this notice. Failure to comply will attract legal action without further warning.”
SSNBS is a regulatory authority established in 2012, responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing standards, conformity assessment, metrology, and technical regulations.
Its primary objectives include enforcing standards to protect public health, safety, and the environment from substandard products, ensuring fair trade through reliable measurement systems, and promoting exports through certification and value addition.
