President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Friday received an extensive briefing on the devastating floods in Lakes State.

Gen. Rin Tueng Mabor met with President Kiir at State House to brief him on the security and flood situation in the state.

Tueng stated in a statement posted by the presidential press unit that the floods have affected Awerial, Rumbek East, Cueibet, and Wulu.

He noted that the floods have submerged farmlands, displaced many people, and impacted thousands of livestock, which is a major source of income for households in the state.

He also updated the President on the security situation in the state, which he said has remained largely stable, with only isolated incidents caused by external cattle raids—a persistent challenge in the region.

He urged the President to resume the construction of the main road connecting Juba to the Bahr El Ghazal region.

He described the highway as an economic lifeline for the region, noting that its completion would not only boost trade and movement but also improve access to vital services for communities along the route.

For his part, President Kiir reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the Lakes State government in achieving peace and development.

Regarding the road resumption, Kiir acknowledged the importance of infrastructure development, promising to take steps to ensure the timely completion of the road project.
