The government of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State has urged the authorities of Jonglei State to hold accountable those responsible for the recent attack on traders in Bor town.

On September 12, a group of unruly youth reportedly assaulted traders from Bahr el Ghazal in Bor, stealing 37 million South Sudanese pounds and 7,000 U.S. dollars, and leaving behind 9 machetes and Punga wounds.

Dominic Kang Deng, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State’s Acting Minister of Information, called on Jonglei State authorities to take swift action to protect their citizens from violence.

“The perpetrators of this crime remain at large and have yet to be brought to justice. The state government is in consultation with Jonglei State regarding the urgency and importance of bringing those responsible for this crime to justice,” said Kang.

He stated that South Sudan is a country that ensures freedom of movement, residency, and safety for every citizen who chooses to live anywhere within its territorial boundaries.

“The state government urges the citizens of Northern Bahr el Ghazal to remain calm as the matter is being pursued by the relevant authorities,” Kang said.

He added that the two states are collaborating to ensure justice is served against the offenders.

“The state government also urges the citizens to continue preserving peace, the rule of law, and the safety of everyone in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.”

Agau Kun Kuol, chairlady of the Northern Bahr el Ghazal Women’s Union, called on youth to remain calm and refrain from retaliatory attacks.

“I urge all the youths to stay away from the violence, especially our sons in Bor, and I also ask our youths who have been attacked to remain patient as their case is being followed legally,” said Kun.

She stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence between Northern Bahr el Ghazal State and Jonglei State.

“We are peaceful in the state, and we also urge our sisterly states to maintain peace. We are all South Sudanese, and we must live in peace.”
