South Sudan has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing bilateral relations with China in order to benefit from its development opportunities.

Speaking during the celebration of the 76th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China in the Capital Juba on Monday, Martin Elia Lomuro, the Minister of Cabinet Affairs, stated that the government will continue to strengthen the existing relationship with China.

“Excellencies, ladies and gentlemen, as we celebrate today, South Sudan renews its commitment to strengthening the ties of friendship and cooperation with China,” Lomuro said.

He emphasised that both countries are working towards common goals of peace, stability, and development for the benefit of their people and the global community.

“On this National Day of China, let us celebrate China’s achievements, reflect on our partnership, and cherish the enduring friendship between China and South Sudan,” he added.

Lomuro noted that China has been a reliable and supportive partner for South Sudan since its independence.

“From the construction of roads and hospitals to assistance in oil production and support in airspace management and composite building, China has stood with us as a great friend, honouring the people of South Sudan,” he said.

He stressed that these initiatives are not merely projects; they are symbols of solidarity that enhance the daily lives of citizens.

“We acknowledge China’s role in peace, humanitarian support, and the promotion of relations,” he stated.

For his part, MA Qiang, the Chinese Ambassador to South Sudan, remarked that bilateral cooperation with South Sudan has yielded positive results over the years.

“The new building at South Sudan’s headquarters has become a landmark in Juba, while the Juba-Rumbek Highway serves as a vital artery connecting Central Equatoria State and Lakes State,” MA said.

He added that China has dispatched 13 groups of experienced medical teams to treat the injured, along with several shipments of donated medicines and medical equipment over the years.

“We hope that the children of our two countries will grow up healthily and become the successors and new hopes for the cause of China-South Sudan friendship,” MA expressed.

“Now, I would like to propose a toast to the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, and to the prosperity of both China and South Sudan,” he concluded.

“And to the enduring friendship between our two peoples, to world peace and development, the shared future of humanity, and to the health and happiness of all our brothers and sisters.”
