"We Dare where others fear"
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gen. Atem Marol Biar is on the tour of greater Bahr El Ghazal region to ascertain the working conditions and welfare of the police force.
The tour is welcome but it should come up with concrete solutions to improve the poor working conditions of the force especially in rural states.
The IGP and other senior police bosses should also address the issue of bribery and corruption within the force that threatens to erode public trust and confidence.
For example, the rot in immigration where Marol was previously the boss should also be tackled. This meant to improve trust and confidence in the force because some bad apples within the force have been preying on the public.
Marol has his work cut out and he needs to win the trust of President Salva Kiir and the public if he is transform the entire police force.
As the election period nears there is need to train the police force to prepare it to provide security during the upcoming elections. The selection of officers for this training should reflect the national character of the country and should not be based on clan/tribal loyality.
