A joint security force on Saturday seized over 300 sophisticated guns from unauthorized individuals in Gondokoro Payam of Juba County.
The guns were collected during a search by a joint operation which began during Christmas festival. It mainly involved thorough inspection of vehicles and house-to -house search.
Gen.Thoi Chol Chany, the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) Assistant Chief of Operations’ said the guns collected include AK-47, PKM, RPG and Colt Monitor.
“I would like to tell the citizens of South Sudan that the collection of guns will not stop, it will continue and I want to tell you that even if your gun is collected and your neighbor is not disarmed report it to security agencies because if you don’t report it will affect you,” Chol was quoted by the state owned television (SSBC) on Saturday in Juba.
Chol urged the citizens to cooperate with joint security forces involved in door-to-door searches.
“I would like to urge the citizens of Juba to cooperate with joint security forces and report anybody with a gun,” he said.
“I am sure these are not the only guns we have in Juba, so many of them are still in the hands of civilians, they have been hidden and we will continue with the search for them,” he added.
