The Governor of Lakes State Rin Tueny Mabor on Monday ordered the State Minister of Agriculture to ensure that all tractors belonging to the government are reclaimed from individuals.
This comes as the State prepares to boost food productivity to address persistent food shortages.
Mabor said that they are working to ensure that farmers acquire legal titles for their land in order to increase food production in the State.
We should encourage civilians to cooperate with business people who own large farms; the board of directors for the National Agricultural Bank has made a decision to establish agro-mechanical centres in all the States in order to promote agricultural production,” said Mabor while briefing journalists after meeting a team of officials from the National Agricultural Bank and the State Ministry of Agriculture in Rumbek town.
The National Agricultural Bank is set to provide loans to interested farmers who want to operate businesses in the State, according to Pieng Deng Kuol, the Second Deputy Chairperson for the National Agricultural Bank.
Kuol disclosed that the National Agricultural Bank has already developed laws governing cooperative societies, adding that the State government and the community need to work closely to boost agriculture production in the State.
Mayom Tulba Malual, the founder of KujuGulo farm thanked President Salva Kiir and Governor Rin Tueny Mabor for improving security in Lakes State that has in turn allowed farmers to produce.
President Salva Kiir in 2016 donated tractors to all the 10 States to help increase food production.
