The transitional unity government and hold-out opposition parties are nearing signing a comprehensive peace agreement in Nairobi.

This peace agreement is a result of building trust and confidence. The parties seem to have resolved their differences and ready to join hands to take South Sudan forward.

The country needs to silence all the guns; peace in South Sudan should end the intermittent communal violence that remains a sore on the body politik of this country.

The opposition leaders should return home with clear ideas of working collectively with the government to usher in sustainable peace and security.

South Sudan is a country endowed with huge natural resources that need exceptional brilliant leaders to harness.

Conflicts have prevented this endowed country from realizing it’s potential in the region and at the continental level.

Peace and security are critical for South Sudan to not only attract foreign direct investments (FDI), but also to achieve sustained economic growth over a period of years.

It’s time for politicians to think and work for the national interest rather than at the tribal or regional level.
