The Inspector General of Police Services has ordered refresher training for 170 immigration officers deployed at Juba International Airport.
Maj. Gen Simon Majur Pabek, the Director General for the Directorate of Civil Registry, Nationality, Passport and Immigration, said that the 10 -day refresher training is meant to assess the competence of the immigration officers and as well update their skills.
“We have received orders from the Inspector General of Police, that those who have been deployed at Juba International Airport have to go for training,” said Pabek during a press conference on Wednesday in Juba.
He disclosed that most of the officers who graduated three years ago from the police college have forgotten key aspects of policing, adding that all officers must attend refresher course before going for any training abroad.
“Refresher training is not enough, there will also be lectures, and review on civil procedures and police investigation. And after the 10 days, the trainees will be grouped into three groups that will be waiting for additional training outside,” he said.
Pabek said that the refresher training will be conducted at the police operation training ground at Buluk.
He noted that immigration officers will be accorded leave of duty from the Juba International Airport for the duration of the training.
“You have not been removed from the airport; you are just taken for training. Refresher training is very important, after two years you can go for three months training,” said Pabek.
