The Wednesday meeting that brought the Governors of Jonglei, Central Equatoria and the Chief Administrator of Greater Pibor Administrative Area is commendable.

The meeting which discussed end fighting between cattle herders with farmers who are particularly found in Central Equatoria State, comes in the wake of violence in Mogiri Boma which left 22 civilians killed.

The suspected armed attackers in Mogiri Boma are believed to hail from Jonglei State. This latest incident is not the first but part of the numerous violent incidents that have occurred in Central Equatoria State over the years.

Gen. Augustino Jadalla Kamilo Wani, Governor of Central Equatoria State should be applauded for inviting his two counterparts to strategize on how to avoid similar conflicts in the future. His two counterparts deserve to be applauded for suggesting they regulate movement of cattle herders in their areas of authority.

Regulating movement of cattle herders is part of the solutions, but there is need for close understanding between both cattle herders and cultivating communities to ensure respect and good co-existence.
