President Salva Kiir Mayardit On Wednesday, said  that the government is actively addressing economic challenges and enhancing working conditions for employees across the nation.

“To our civil servants, your perseverance in the face of economic hardship is commendable. The government acknowledges the challenges you endure and assures you that we remain committed to improving your working conditions, ensuring timely salary payments, and implementing sustainable reforms to uplift public services,” President Kiir said in a statement ahead of International Labor Day.

“I extend my heartfelt appreciation to all the hardworking men and women of South Sudan. This day is a tribute to your tireless efforts and unwavering dedication to the growth, development, and stability of our beloved nation,” he added.

President Kiir also expressed gratitude to partners, including the diplomatic community, UN agencies, international organizations, and NGOs, for their instrumental support and cooperation in peacebuilding, humanitarian response, and national development.

“As we observe this day, let it also be a moment of reflection on how far we have come and the collective efforts required to secure lasting peace, economic progress, and social justice. I urge all of us to continue working in unity, guided by the principles of dignity, accountability, and shared responsibility,” he said.

International Labor Day, marked annually on May 1, aims to promote awareness about workers’ rights and is currently being celebrated under the international theme, “Safety and Health of Workers.”

Also known as May Day, International Labor Day dates back to the movement in 1886 when American workers in Chicago organized a strike demanding an eight-hour workday. It recognizes the contributions of workers and serves as a reminder of the ongoing need to improve working conditions and ensure fair treatment in the workplace.
