The Governor of Central Equatoria State, Gen. Augustino Jadalla Kamilo Wani, visited displaced persons in Morobo County to engage with survivors of recent violence.

The purpose of the governor’s visit was to understand the humanitarian situation facing those displaced and to assess their urgent needs. He aims to support resettlement and recovery programs for the affected individuals currently hosted in Morobo town.

The fighting, which erupted last week between the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-in Opposition (SPLA-IO), has uprooted over 8,900 women, children, and elderly people from their homes.

Mr. Jacob Aligo Lo-Lado, Central Equatoria State Acting Minister of Information and Communication, said  that the governor’s visit aimed to foster sustainable peace and stability in the county.

“The governor’s visit is first to familiarize himself with the security situation in the county following recent challenges, including the conflict between government forces and IO forces,” Aligo told the media on Wednesday.

“The governor will be touring the areas where the displaced have been temporarily sheltered and will also listen to them to assess the situation for potential humanitarian intervention by aid agencies.”

For his part, Charles Data Bullen, Morobo County Commissioner, reported that the SSPDF is still pursuing the SPLA-IO forces.

“Panyume is still under observation. The SSPDF is pursuing the enemy, and all the former forces of the IO have left their original positions,” Data said.

He also disclosed that the overall security situation in Morobo County is normal and calm.
