The Governor of Lakes State Gen. Rin Tueny Mabor has called for peace and unity among the people of Lakes State and the entire country as they commemorate May 16, known as SPLA Day.

Lakes State celebrated the 42nd Anniversary of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) Day under the theme “Commemorating Our Heroes and Heroines in the Spirit of Peace, Unity, and Resilience.”

Governor Mabor presided over the commemoration, emphasizing the importance of unity among South Sudanese and the resilience demonstrated throughout years of national liberation and struggle.

“The state is optimistic as we celebrate this day in honor of our heroes and heroines, led by Dr. John Garang. We should not dwell on the past but focus on the future. The spirit of May 16 surrounds us with peace and unity. We must embrace good governance and the rule of law, and work diligently to develop Lakes State and South Sudan,” said Governor Mabor.

Cde. Deborah Chiditgam Agok, Chairlady of the Red Army Foundation at the national level, expressed gratitude to President Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit for his exemplary leadership following the tragic death of the late Dr. John Garang in a plane crash in 2005. She emphasized that South Sudanese citizens, regardless of whether they hold government or non-government jobs, remain patriotic to their country.

“Lakes is the blessed state where the late Dr. Garang publicly handed leadership to Cde. Salva Kiir in his last speech. She stated that refugees contribute to corruption and that the Red Army will work to eliminate refugee issues across the country, as there should be no refugees in Lakes.”

Cde. David Dut Ayuen, chairperson of the high-level committee and representative of ten states and three administrative areas under the Red Army, noted that this army is present across the nation.

He remarked that this historic day should not be forgotten in order to preserve the legacy of SPLA Day and thanked the state for its hospitality.

Mr. Mabor Kau Akec, state chairman of the Red Army Foundation for Lakes, expressed his joy in celebrating the 42nd Anniversary of SPLA Day with messages of peace and unity among South Sudanese leaders.

Mrs. Deborah Yar Kuch, Chairlady of the SPLM Women’s League, emphasized that self-sustainability for the people of Lakes State must be prioritized as it was in the past.

She criticized the current laziness that leads to negative perceptions of the government and urged the government to establish large farms to provide employment for those who are idle.
